"The prayer here is that the country would not head toward becoming an Islamic state. There have been some tensions because of that and fears that might have been some sort of secret agenda in the original Parliament here, in their choosing of a president."
(Turkey)—According to a report by Mission Network News (MNN) and the IN Network, Turkey's upcoming elections this Sunday are of real concern to Christians, as the turnout could drastically sway the country one way or another.
Still in the early stages of democracy, the general election this weekend is to elect 550 members of Parliament, who will in turn select a president.
"The prayer here is that the country would not head toward becoming an Islamic state," explained Rody Rodeheaver, with the IN Network. "There have been some tensions because of that and fears that might have been some sort of secret agenda in the original Parliament here, in their choosing of a president."
MNN suggests several directions of prayer for Sunday's elections:
•Pray that the country elects a government that will allow believers to share the hope of Christ.
•Pray for the Lord's comfort and peace during the electoral process.
•Pray for the protection of Christians in Turkey in these sensitive times and that this nation will know the glory of our God and that God will send revival.
