"I am sad that this innocent girl had to leave Pakistan."
Although Rimsha Masih was acquitted in a Pakistani court, following false accusations of blasphemy when a Muslim cleric said she was burning pages of the Quran, the teen and her family continued to receive many death threats.
The danger kept them on the move around Pakistan, until finally Canada has given Rimsha, her three sisters, brother and parents refuge.
One cleric who had lobbied for her release commented on the situation.
"I am sad that this innocent girl had to leave Pakistan," he said. "She had been acquitted by the court, and despite that it was not possible for her to live freely."
