It reads "Pure for God," providing "direct archaeological evidence of ritual activity in the Temple."
(Jerusalem, Israel) - On Sunday, December 25, Israeli archaeologists announced they had discovered a 2,000-year-old clay seal near the Western Wall. (Photo: Israel Antiquities Authority, IAA, archaeologist Eli Shukron shows an ancient seal)
According to a Reuter's report, the seal is shaped like a button and reads "Pure for God," in Aramaic.
"It seems that the inscribed object was used to mark products or objects that were brought to the Temple, and it was imperative they be ritually pure," said a spokesman for the Israel Antiquities Authority.
