"The 'Chariots of Fire' sequel is coming along fine. It's called 'Wings As Eagles' taken from Isaiah 40:31, 'they shall mount up on wings as eagles,' and it's the story of Eric Liddell continuing his life to go teach in China and suddenly his school is turned into a concentration camp. And it's an exciting adventure...It's going to be a great story."
(Beverly Hills, California)?Ken Wales is a veteran filmmaker and Executive Producer of the critically acclaimed and award-winning CBS Television series Christy, and also the producer of the film, Amazing Grace. He even was the best man at Blake Edwards' wedding to Julie Andrews.
Dan Wooding, who began his career in journalism back in 1968, interviewed Wales along with his granddaughter, Hailey Blu at the 18th Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Beverly Hills, California, on Tuesday, February 23, 2010.
Wales introduced Wooding "to my favorite leading lady." He said his granddaughter Hailey is going to be appearing in a film Wales is making about the French and Indian war.
"She's going to play a young Indian girl, and she is quite out there by herself in the plains, and she discovers that happiness is being with a lot of other kids. So we're excited about Hailey," Wales told Wooding.
Hailey said she is in second grade and her favorite subject is Social Studies. A year ago Hailey entered the national handwriting contest and was one out of two people to win. She is a 'lefty,' so winning the competition is quite an achievement.
Wales explained another film project he is working on which will start shooting in 2011.
"Well, the Chariots of Fire sequel is coming along fine. It's called Wings As Eagles taken from Isaiah 40:31, 'they shall mount up on wings as eagles,' and it's the story of Eric Liddell continuing his life to go teach in China and suddenly his school is turned into a concentration camp. And it's an exciting adventure?I keep the life of Abrams, the Jewish runner, in the picture too. It's going to be a great story."
Wales is also working on the story of Ashley Smith, the young woman who read the Purpose Driven Life in Atlanta, and how it changed her life, making it possible for her to be with her young daughter again.
Wooding asked Wales how he feels about the movie industry at the moment.
"The good news is that there are a lot of family films out there?we're glad for Blind Side and we're glad for all the films that show faith at the center of all the decisions that they make," said Wales.
Wales also said he wants to do a story about William Wilberforce and his second obsession?to have a reform of manners, morals, decency and a return to civility, to be called Do It Right.
