In front of a crowd of 30,000 at Anaheim Stadium, Sunday, author of the best-selling Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren unveiled a new plan and commitment of the church for PEACE. The acronym stands for Planting churches, Equipping leaders, Assisting the poor, Caring for the sick and Educating the next generation.

Warren hopes to mobilize one billion Believers in missions by the year 2020, ushering in a worldwide spiritual awakening. "My hope is for a new reformation in the Church and a new spiritual awakening throughout the world," Pastor Warren said. "But it will happen through ordinary people in small groups across the country and around the world."

Warren's announcement was made at a special Sunday celebration for the 25th anniversary of Saddleback Church which he pastors. The event included a motorcycle jumping exhibition and a large pool set up for baptisms.

Since Warren wrote the The Purpose Driven Life, over 20 thousand churches in 28 countries have completed the 40 Days of Purpose. Among those recorded as supporting the PEACE plan are, President George W. Bush, Rev. Billy Graham, Chuck Colson and Gaddi Vasquez, director of the Peace Corps.
