Good News amid Challenging Times: When People Provide Help vs the Government

Intercessors For America

What is encouraging in these unprecedented times is everyday Americans saying 'Hey, we can help—watch this.'

When it was clear that the Covid-19 situation was making an enormous impact on our nation, America woke up.

JOIN THE COVID-19 PRAYER WALL–IT'S A GREAT WAY TO SHOW YOU CARE AND OFFER ENCOURAGEMENT TO OTHERS

This is the America we now are seeing:

Reports are that the truckers are driving longer, getting supplies to the stores. People are stocking the shelves all night and letting the elderly shop first.

Carnival Cruise line told Trump 'We can match those big Navy Hospital ships with some fully staffed cruise ships.'

GM said we can make those ventilators where we were making cars–starting next week.

Women and children are making homemade masks and handing out snacks to truckers.

Restaurants and schools said, 'We've got kitchens and staff; we can feed kids.'

Churches are holding on-line services and taking care of their members and community.

NBA basketball players said, 'We may not be playing but we can write checks to pay the arena staff.'

Construction companies said, 'Here are some masks for the medical staff and doctors.'

Breweries and distilleries are making sanitizer out of the left-over ingredients.

Americans are trying to keep local restaurants open by ordering take-out...

What is encouraging in these unprecedented times is everyday Americans saying 'Hey, we can help—watch this.'

(What we don't hear about right now is also as encouraging–no overwhelming coverage of gender identity issues or transgender story hour. No lawsuits about religious freedom, or protests about border patrol doing their jobs.)

What does all this tell us? When Americans solve their own problems, create their own solutions, manage their own situations, we are quicker, more efficient, and it is uplifting. "We did it" or "God helped us" is a far more empowering message than "the government provided."

In general, when we expect the government to manage our lives, provide for our needs, and solve our problems and mandate behavior, we get sluggish, massive, overreaching results–just look at the attempts to add trillions of pork into the current Covid-19 bailout bill before Congress. The bill, which was supposed to be drafted quickly to aid Americans who were losing paychecks, was like a rolling stone that quickly gathered pork and special interest funding, including funding abortions, diversity training, and more unrelated items.

A great object lesson on the benefits of capitalism vs. big government provision–especially in times of need. Thank God for the men, women, and businesses in our nation who stepped up to be our own solution!
