Fact Check Report on Claims that Late-Term Abortions are Mostly Done Due to Fetal Abnormalities or Risks to Mother: the TRUTH is Very Different

"Overwhelmingly, the late-term procedures that we did were not for fetal anomalies. We did late-term procedures on women who were perimenopausal and didn't want to be pregnant. We did them on teenagers." -former abortion clinic worker

A recent article on  Breitbart.com noted that although the president of the largest abortion provider—Planned Parenthood—insists that late-term abortions are only done in cases of 'severe fetal abnormalities or serious risks to the mother', even abortionists dispute her claim. (Photo: Pixabay)

Breitbart's fact-checking article cites statements by abortionists and abortion clinic workers that reveal a very different picture.

Susan Robinson, a late-term abortionist from New Mexico admitted according to LifeNews, "Women whose fetuses have terrible abnormalities ... are a lot easier for people to understand. The husband and wife want to spare their baby whatever suffering that baby would have... Then there's the group of women who didn't know they were pregnant. They were told they were not pregnant for one reason or another and they are just as desperate. 'I already have three children, my husband just lost his job and I can barely put food on the table. If I add a new baby to this family, we'll all go under.'"

Infamous abortionist George Tiller told an audience in 1995, "We have some experience with late terminations; about 10,000 patients between 24 and 36 weeks and something like 800 fetal anomalies between 26 and 36 weeks in the past 5 years."

LifeNews notes that the numbers equate "to a mere eight percent of Tiller's late-term patients who aborted because their babies were diagnosed prenatally with a health condition."

Former Planned Parenthood director, (now a strong pro-life proponent) Abby Johnson, was interviewing a former abortion clinic worker and asked how often a late-term abortion was performed due to a baby abnormalities or the mother's risk. The unnamed ex-worker told her:

"Almost never, Abby. Almost never. Almost never. I would say that the highest profile of women that were having the late-term abortions were completely normal pregnancies, quite often young, and sometimes had just had more fear of having to tell someone they were pregnant, or being so completely out of touch with their own body that they didn't understand and how rapidly the pregnancy was progressing, or I don't know...

"Overwhelmingly, the late-term procedures that we did were not for fetal anomalies. We did late-term procedures on women who were perimenopausal and didn't want to be pregnant. We did them on teenagers."

It seems the loud feminist voices out there seem to want to push abortion as the ONLY 'choice' no matter what the mother's situation.

But women who are pregnant need to know that there ARE OTHER OPTIONS.

So many couples who cannot conceive on their own are waiting sometimes years to adopt a baby. What an answer to prayer a child would be for them; what a precious gift that woman could give.

Or she could determine to keep and raise her child.

It's a very different world from the time when I was a single mom. Now there are pro-life pregnancy centers that will walk with a mother through EVERY step of carrying and caring for a new baby. Many provide free services, including ultrasounds, pregnancy check-ups, counseling, birth-coaches and baby clothes and needs. Some even work with adoption agencies to help those choosing to give their baby a home through adoption. (Photo: Aimee Herd-BCN editor)

As a mother myself, and a woman who has always been in the workforce in one way or another, I cannot understand why so many of my gender, who claim to champion the causes of other women, seem to want to destroy one of the most precious, miraculous and wonderful aspects of BEING a woman: giving life to another human being.
