Simpson, a Lee University alumnus, wowed judges and audiences with everything from hymns like "Amazing Grace," "O Holy Night" and secular tunes by James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Pink and Journey.

After Simpson's loss, Coach Miley Cyrus tweeted:
