"Trump appears to understand how much is riding on his performance. He is doing his best to reassure the country that he is an effective, hands-on leader able to handle this crisis." -Kenneth T. Walsh, U.S. News

(Texas) In the first natural disaster of his presidency, Trump seems to be very committed to staying on top of the dire situation in east Texas, as the outgoing Harvey continued to dump devastating rains on the already flooded area. Even U.S. News reported: "President Donald Trump appears to be handling the federal response to Hurricane Harvey actively and aggressively so far, regularly releasing updates on how closely he is supervising the situation..."

The President has been tweeting about the monstrous storm and praising rescue efforts on the ground in the Lone Star State. According to a Yahoo News report, Trump said, "I will be going to Texas as soon as that trip can be made without causing disruption. The focus must be life and safety."

A tweet from President Trump on Saturday read: "Wonderful coordination between Federal, State and Local Governments in the Great State of Texas—TEAMWORK! Record setting rainfall."

Federal resources were released on Friday, after Trump declared Texas a disaster area, which helped the state to deal with the storm.

U.S. News noted that "Trump appears to understand how much is riding on his performance. He is doing his best to reassure the country that he is an effective, hands-on leader able to handle this crisis," and that he is trying to avoid any problems that G.W. Bush faced during Hurricane Katrina, which led to extensive criticism for a "weak government response."

Said the U.S. News report: "Today, Trump is portraying himself as concerned, engaged and insisting on fast action to deal with Hurricane Harvey."
