At a Time When Respect for the Police is Often Marginalized, This Waitress' Actions Can Inspire All of Us

[Faithit.com] A group of police officers decided to meet up at Red Robin after attending their fellow Officer Steven Smith's funeral. When they went to pay the bill they realized someone else had beat them to it. (Screengrab via NBC 4)

Jessica Dunbar is a waitress who usually makes most of her income off of tips, but today, she didn't care. She covered the officers' meal and left them with that note on the back of what would have been their receipt.
 
"Officers, your bill is on me today. I can't imagine the day you all have had, let alone what you go through every day. I hope your days get better. So much respect. #WeSeeYou #PoliceLivesMatter #RIPOfficerSmith"
 
In an interview, the selfless waitress said, "I just wanted to do something nice. You can't put a dollar amount on making somebody happy."
 
Lt. Jeff Shelton was blown away by her act of kindness.

The whole story hit home for Jessica. She knew it could have easily been her world that was rocked that day.
 
"He left behind a wife and kids. It could've been me. It could've been my dad. People look up to them [the police]. To have them shake my hand and say 'thank you' to me, that was incredible."
 
It doesn't matter how much you make or what you do for a living, Jessica just proved kindness is ALWAYS an option.
