Shocked Kansas Leaders Ask for Prayer After Massacre at Small Town Factory

While many of the victims had worked with the shooter, County Sheriff T. Walton said some of were random.

"Please send your thoughts and prayers to the people of Hesston," tweeted Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, who also ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff in memory of the victims and their families. 

Tweets from other leaders, saying they are praying for the victims' families include US Senator Pat Roberts and Congressmen Mike Pompeo, Kevin Yoder and Lynn Jenkins. 

Reports indicate that one of the first responders at the scene was a police officer who saved multiple lives by risking (his life) and is being praised as a hero. 

The shooter, identified as 38-year-old Cedric Ford, was shot dead at the factory. He reportedly had an extensive criminal record.
