Call me a cynic, but the handling of this most recent college attack reeks of political correctness.

(Merced, CA)—Millions of Americans were scratching their heads this week, wondering when they were going to learn the identity of the man who stabbed four students on the Merced campus of University of California this week, and why it was being withheld for so long. (Screengrab via Fox News)

One day later, on Thursday, Fox News appeared to be the outlet to finally break that news, identifying the stabber as 18-year-old Faisal Mohammad from Santa Clara, California.

Mohammad, a freshman computer science and engineering major, was shot and killed by police after the attacks.

Hopefully, other media outlets will be responsible to report the news as well, and not just as a side note. It would seem journalistic integrity should demand it.

The Fox report noted that authorities are investigating the motive.

Call me a cynic, but the handling of this attack reeks of political correctness. Will it not get the same national coverage and attention from the White House because of the attacker's name and the fact that guns weren't involved?

If not, perhaps it will be social media and indie news sites that will do the job the mainstream press is failing at.

Someone needs to do it.
