"This is a great victory for the people of Houston. Now, they will actually be able to vote on who they want using which bathrooms in the city rather than having a radical mayor tell them who they must allow." –Russ Hepler, The Federalist Papers

airlift(Houston, TX)—Last Friday, the Texas Supreme Court ruled that the City of Houston must either repeal or put to a vote the contentious "bathroom bill" that would have allowed transgenders to use restrooms of their choice. (Photo via Charisma News)

City officials were said to have kept the ordinance off the ballot illegally.

Also, many Americans may remember the city's lesbian mayor, Anise Parker, from last year when she tried to subpoena the sermons and communications of pastors known as the "Houston 5."

Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Legal Counsel Erik Stanley said, "The subpoenas we successfully fought were only one element of this disgraceful abuse of power. The scandal began when the city arbitrarily threw out the valid signatures of thousands of voters.

"The city did this," he said, "all because it was bent on pushing through its deeply unpopular ordinance at any cost. The Texas Supreme Court has rightly rectified this wrong."
