...We're reminded of just how ultimately powerful God's Word really is, and nothing that goes on here on Earth surprises Him, because "no creature is hidden from His sight."

I had a feeling God was preparing me for the news that would bombard me once I turned on the TV this morning, when I read the day's verse in my Bible app.

"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful." -Hebrews 10:23

I read it, and like Mary—took it to heart—as I switched on the news in preparation for work.

Terror attacks... not just one but three of them in three different countries. Ugh.

"Here comes the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on same-sex marriage..." announced a reporter, standing in front of the nation's highest court building.

I confess, a large part of me wanted to switch off the TV and crawl back into bed.

And then I thought about that verse.

A co-worker IM'd me a challenge to write something uplifting and encouraging in spite of the news, and so... here I am.

The thing about the book of Hebrews is that it is immensely hopeful and reassuring.

Starting out, it's a reminder of just who Jesus is, and of His absolute authority.

That's especially meaningful to recall today, in light of our Supreme Court's landmark decision.

Elsewhere in Hebrews, we're reminded that Jesus understands all that we're going through; and has our back when we need Him...

...to listen for His voice (among the many out there biding for our time and attention) and that He will accordingly give us rest.

...We're reminded of just how ultimately powerful God's Word really is, and nothing that goes on here on Earth surprises Him, because "no creature is hidden from His sight."

...Jesus is our compassionate High Priest who provides mercy and grace in times of need.

...That "hall of faith" that cites the trust in God of so many who have gone before us...

And finally in the last chapter of this great book:

"Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.' So we may boldly say:

'The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?'"

The icing on the cake is that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."

Feeling encouraged yet?

I am.

Keep the faith, and if you feel yourself getting discouraged, do like King David did and get into God's Word.

It IS what stands forever, anyway!
