I believe it is God's dream for us to give life, not take it through abortion.

(Milan, Italy)—This past Sunday, a truly beautiful and life-affirming event happened at a most unlikely place: during Fashion Week in Milan, Italy. The fashion design house Dolce & Gabbana created a runway show called "Viva La Mamma." (Photo: Pietro D'Aprano/QZ)

"The mother is the heart of the family," Dolce & Gabbana proclaim in describing the show. "The designers had a very intimate and personal approach when creating this collection, because the image of the mother that inspired them comes from their own memories as children."

Beautiful women portraying mothers came walking down the runway, holding babies and toddlers for all the world to see. Expectant mother and supermodel Bianca Balti even strolled down the aisle carrying the child in her womb—smiling with a glow from the life within her, so bright even the media noticed.

The models were not rigid, cold or distant as many fashion shows appear. Every smile seemed genuinely warm. Even photos of the audience reflect the beauty of the promise of new life and what it means to be a mother.

I have always believed that deep inside the heart of every woman is an echo of this name, an echo of our purpose and our creative destiny. Viva La Mamma is written on our hearts and in Scripture. It is God's dream for us to be mothers with warm smiles—on and off the runway, with every eye on us and when every eye is turned away.

I believe it is God's dream for us to give life, not take it through abortion. Motherhood is beautiful.

Motherhood is so often rigidly described by the world and by pro-abortion advocates. Then suddenly, I am filled with hope from the least likely source: a high-society fashion show on a world famous runway in Milan... viva la mamma! Even this secular stage shines with admiration for motherhood.
