"...I remember [praying] 'Holy God, please send your Holy Spirit to save my son.' All of a sudden, I heard them saying, 'We got a pulse, we got a pulse!'"

(St. Louis, MO)—On January 19, three teenage boys fell through the ice on Lake Sainte Louise. One, 14-year-old John Smith, had been underwater for 15 minutes when rescuers finally retrieved him from the lake and begin CPR—which they continued for 27 minutes. At that time, Dr. Kent Sutterer stated Smith had been "dead" for 45 minutes and his chances of survival were poor.

Enter Smith's mother, Joyce. When she entered the room where CPR was still being performed on her son, she began "praying loudly," said Sutterer.

"I don't remember what all I said," recalled Joyce. "But I remember [praying] 'Holy God, please send your Holy Spirit to save my son.' All of a sudden, I heard them saying, 'We got a pulse, we got a pulse!"'

The clincher? Dr. Sutterer, in his notes on the Smith case, wrote: "His heart was jump started by the Holy Spirit listening to the request of his praying mother."

Today, according to a report in Newser, John's brain function is normal and he's at home walking and talking like any other teenager.
