A Fox News report stated that Saeed's mother had been facing increasing threats against her in Iran, as she sought clemency for her son who has been locked in Iran's worst prisons because of his Christian faith.

"She did not want to leave Iran," Naghmeh Abedini, Saeed's wife said. "She did not want to say goodbye to her son. But, this action was necessary to guarantee her safety."

Saeed has been beaten repeatedly, sustaining internal injuries that still remain untreated. His mother had visited him, first at Evin Prison, and then at Rajai Shahr prison where he is currently being held.

According to Naghmeh, Saeed's mother faced "daily threats and intimidation for championing her son's case." Naghmeh—who lives in Idaho—has not gone to see her husband in Iran for fear she would be immediately arrested, leaving her two children without any parents to care for them.

"...Saeed's mom is now safely out of the country," Naghmeh Abedini told Fox News. "We look forward to seeing her soon here in the United States. It has been a difficult time for all of us—including Saeed's mom."
