The CDC is asking doctors to report patients 21 or younger who developed limb weakness since August 1 and who have had an MRI exam that showed abnormalities in the nerve tissue in the spinal cord.

The enterovirus 68—first uncovered in 1962, but most recently the source of a wave of illness among children and youth across the mostly mid-west US and into Canada—may now be responsible for some new symptoms cropping up in Colorado. (Photo via Fox News)

Nine children were being treated at Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colorado, for fever and respiratory illness, and also "varying degrees of limb weakness," according to a Fox News report.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sent out an alert on Friday, that the enterovirus 68 germ had been detected in "four out of eight of the sick children..."

The CDC is reportedly researching on whether or not the paralysis is connected to virus.
