Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi was asked if the attack had been thwarted, to which he answered, "No" but that the US had been alerted.

Al-Abadi told journalists that the plot was the "work of foreign fighters of the Islamic State group in Iraq (ISIS).
