Huge Hamas Attack on Israel Planned for Rosh Hashanah, Foiled by Israelis; Tunnels Were to be Used for Kidnapping and Holding Hostages

(Israel)—Multiple sources have revealed a large-scale, complex plot to attack Israel on Rosh Hashanah (New Year) was in the making by terrorists before Israeli officials arrested two men several weeks ago and got the information from them. (Photo via Breitbart.com)

According to a report in the Times of Israel, the men were reportedly recruited by a Hamas cell operating out of Ramallah. Three other men have since been arrested, with authorities saying the deadly plot was already in its advanced stages when it was foiled.

How deadly and how advanced?

Breitbart reported that "thousands of Hamas-linked terrorists planned to invade Israel... on September 24"—the beginning of Rosh Hashanah.

A report by i24news, said that "thousands of terrorists were meant to cross over to Israel from Gaza through the tunnels and kill and kidnap as many Israelis as they could. The source added that the army learned about the huge planned attack during the interrogations of Hamas prisoners, captured during Operation Protective Edge in Gaza."

When Prime Minister Netanyahu announced the plot to his cabinet meeting, he said if the attack had not been stopped, more than 2,200 deaths would have occurred, more than the fatalities suffered during the Yom Kippur War.
