Located in City of David National Park, the nearly 4,000-year-old "Spring Citadel" reportedly protected the Gihon Spring, the location of King Solomon's anointing as king.

Biblical Archaeology noted that "with 23-foot-thick walls comprised of stone blocks up to ten feet wide, the Spring Citadel represents the largest Canaanite fortress discovered thus far in Israel.

It also notes that Hezekiah's Tunnel connects the Gihon Spring—Jerusalem's fresh water supply—with the Siloam Pool.
