"I'm incredibly blessed to have had my illness. It motivated me to relearn basic science and nutrition." -Dr. Terry Wahls

MS(Iowa City, IA)—My husband and two of my children struggle with an inherited auto-immune disorder which doctors have told us puts them at high risk for other diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis. As a Christian I rebuke what I feel is a generational curse on our family, and I pray diligently for their healing and protection.

I also sit up and take notice when I read reports of medical professionals—in this case a doctor from Iowa, which happens to be my home state—who has kicked a supposedly "incurable" disease. In fact, my daughter's endocrinologist went on a gluten free diet herself for an auto-immune condition with great results and suggested she should too.

Enter Dr. Terry Wahls, a professor of medicine at the University of Iowa, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2000. According to a Newsmax report, Wahls sought out the best medical treatments available, but nothing worked. She became nearly bedridden after seven years and reportedly could no longer sit up unaided and was confined to a wheelchair.

Through persevering with her research, despite her crippling condition, Dr. Wahls discovered a link to her disease and others, such as Parkinson's, in the malfunctioning of mitochondria in the body. Armed with the knowledge, she designed a specific diet and "less than six months later, she was walking unaided and began riding her bike. A few months after that, she completed an 18-mile bike ride."

KaleThe Newsmax report says her groundbreaking diet has "virtually cured her and is helping others who suffer from MS, other neurological diseases, and traumatic brain injuries… many of Dr. Wahl's patients have had the same type of dramatic recovery she experienced by using this diet."

Jake Nelson, a mechanical engineer, is one of them. He said, "In the last two years I have gone from being in a bed, to a wheelchair, to a walker, to a cane, and now nothing. In fact, you can hardly tell I even have MS."

Though, praise God, our family has not been directly affected by MS, with doctors beginning to trace a host of diseases to auto-immune disorders, I am going to check out this diet.
