Florida Officials Reject Proposal to Place Atheist Monument Near Ten Commandments Display

Atheists vow to keep pressing for recognition.

(Levy County, FL)—An application by Williston Atheists to erect a monument near a Ten Commandments display at the Levy County Courthouse has been denied.

County Board officials were said to have unanimously voted against it because the application was not complete and "did not meet all of the guidelines."

According to a Christian News Network report, the monument would have featured quotes from Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and American Atheists founder Madalyn Murray O'Hair.

"We will not give up," said Williston Atheists member Charles Ray Sparrow, of the ruling.
