(Sacramento, CA) U.S. District Judge Lawrence Carlton ruled today that the Pledge of Allegiance is "unconstitutional," stating that school children's rights to be "free from a coercive requirement to affirm God" are violated by reciting it.

Karen England of the Capitol Resource Institute commented on the decision. "The founders of our country realized the importance of acknowledging a Creator God who gives us inalienable rights that cannot be taken away by a human government, England said. "Stripping away all reference to God in the public square puts us on uncertain footing regarding our inalienable rights. If our rights come from men, they can be taken away by men."

"A reference to God in our pledge has historical significance," added England. "It's a tragedy that an extremist federal judge has now taken away this heritage from our children."

According to the article on Christian Wire Service, Pro-Family attorneys will appeal this ruling to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
