Says Daniel Rassoul, a Florida Tech atheist who accidentally signed up to live in a faith-based dorm, "People are genuinely nice here."

Faith dorm(Troy, AL)—The Wall Street Journal has published an upbeat article on a recent surge of religious dorms popping up on public universities around the country.

One such dorm at Troy University, called the Newman Center, is leased by the Catholic Archdioceses of Mobile. Alcohol is forbidden; interfaith and group discussions and spiritual retreats are encouraged.

Though there are detractors—specifically "separation of church and state" secularists—many students and their families welcome the safe and more wholesome environment a faith-based dorm offers.

In fact, the idea has become so popular that plans are for at least one or two to be built on U.S. campuses each year.
