Historians Confirm the Bible Shaped America

According to Baptist Press News, James Hutson, Yale historian and chief of the Library of Congress' Manuscript Division, questioned the current trend of putting the Founding Fathers "in the box of deism," saying they may have believed in the intervention of a divine being which "doesn't align with the beliefs of deists."

Daniel Dreisbach, a law professor at American University, agreed. Referring to the use of Scripture in everyday life and policy debates in colonial America, he said, "Saint Paul is cited about as frequently as Montesquieu or Blackstone, the two most cited secular authors, and Deuteronomy is cited almost twice as often as all of John Locke's writings put together."
