The new law legalizing same-sex "marriage" passed by Canadian lawmakers on July 20 may soon impact state laws in the United States. Same-sex Canadian couples who "marry" under the new law could conceivably move to the U.S. and sue their chosen state of residence for recognition of their union. The law would also allow American couples to travel to Canada to get "married" and then return home with the same intent… suing to have their license recognized in their home state.

In an interview with Baptist Press, Mat Staver, president of the conservative legal group Liberty Counsel, urges Americans to act quickly to protect traditional marriage. "That's why it's so critical that we move forward with a federal Marriage Protect Amendment to amend our U.S. Constitution to preserve marriage as between one man and one woman."
