America For Jesus 2012

A national call to prayer that is becoming increasingly important.

Many different prayer warriors and intercessory leaders have expressed a strong concern and an urgent need for prayer that America will stop the current downward moral spiral, knowing that this kind of turnaround will only come about through our repentance as a nation, with a collective plea for God's grace.

There will be an opportunity for just such a corporate prayer meeting in September with the "America For Jesus" event, happening in Philadelphia, PA.

America for Jesus America For Jesus: The Awakening, is a National Call to Prayer for the country. It's scheduled for September 28-29th at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

There have been 7 such calls to prayer in recent history starting with the "Washington for Jesus" solemn assembly in 1980 on the National Mall in DC; the most recent being "The Assembly 2007" in Virginia Beach on the Oceanfront, in which the 400-year-old covenant of Chaplain Robert Hunt and the Jamestown colonists was renewed.

Each of the prayer rallies were organized by One Nation Under God, Inc—a coalition of ministries who unite to organize national calls to prayer for the sake of the Church and the nation.

According to the America For Jesus 2012 website, the upcoming prayer rally is:
A solemn assembly to summon together the whole body of Christ to pray for the church and our nation. Based on the text in 2 Kings 2:19-22, we believe God is calling His people to bring "the salt" which is the Church to the head of the waters where the foundation of our American liberty was birthed in Philadelphia and to intercede for God to heal the land.

2 Kings 2:19-22—"And the men of the city said unto Elisha, 'Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren.' And he said, 'Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein.' And they brought it to him. And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, 'Thus saith the LORD, "I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land."' So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake."

On the first night of AFJ 2012 (Sept. 28th) the "Awakening Youth Rally" will be held to compel this generation to radically abandon itself to a lifestyle of worship, and prayer motivated by a passion to see God receive the glory that is due His name.

In addition to the America For Jesus prayer rally, there will be a "Love Philadelphia" collaborative community outreach, where thousands of Believers will join forces to serve the city in practical ways.

Not long ago, the Rev. Billy Graham—recognized by Christians and non-Christians alike as perhaps one of the greatest voices for the Gospel in our time—posted an urgent call for prayer, for the people of this country to turn to the Lord.

Whether or not you are a fan of Graham, I think it's safe to say that we all feel the pull to pray and stand in the gap for our nation.

If we cannot physically attend America For Jesus 2012, maybe we can still be involved somehow, as we stand with those who do go, in prayer.

I can't help but think this is a timely verse for OUR times:

Romans 13:11-14—"And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ . . ."
