"God is good. And this nation's attention will be brought back to the cross and brought back to Jesus Christ and we will be one nation under God again." –Junior Garcia
(Washington, DC)—From Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, DC, nineteen-year-old Junior Garcia reached his goal on Friday, July 13th, finishing his 1,400-mile journey on foot, bearing a 12-foot long cross all the way.
Garcia's home congregation at the Oasis Church in Saginaw, Texas, watched his final steps over the internet.
"I can't wait to get back home to all of you at the Oasis Church," Garcia told them via the web, "I just wanted to share this with you."
The teen's reason for the long journey was borne out of Scripture. "I felt God put this in my heart, and it's something I felt so strong about, to just pick up my cross and carry it," he explained.
Upon completion of his walk, Garcia spoke to a small crowd who had gathered to welcome him, saying, "I'm speechless right now, standing here in front of The White House. I'm amazed that He gave me the strength to make it. God is good. And this nation's attention will be brought back to the cross and brought back to Jesus Christ and we will be one nation under God again."
