Road Paul Tread with the Gospel Found

The 2,000-year-old Roman road was discovered under Thessaloniki in Greece.

(Greece)—A 2,000-year-old Roman road has been discovered beneath the city of Thessaloniki in Greece during construction of a subway.

According to the Associated Press, the marble road was believed to be a main travel artery in the ancient city. Several of the large paving stones were also said to bear the imprints of wagon wheels and to be etched with children's board games.

Today, the port city of Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece, but it is also memorialized in Christian history as the town where a riot erupted after the Apostle Paul preached there. Paul visited the city along with Timothy and Silas and wrote a letter to the church there that became the New Testament book of Thessalonians.

The section of road will reportedly be raised and put on display when the metro opens in 2016. Christians who view it will be struck by the fact they are looking at the very stones that the feet of Paul the Apostle tread on in his quest to bring the Gospel to Gentiles. Add to that picture the probability that he was passing children playing games in the street as he walked by, and you have quite a colorful Biblical artifact.
