90-Year-old William Shatner, AKA: Captain Kirk, Boldly Goes Where Few Have Gone before in Blue Origin Space Capsule"...It has to do with the enormity and the quickness and the suddenness of life and death, and oh, my God ... I am overwhelmed. It's the most profound experience I can imagine. I'm so filled with emotion, it's extraordinary ... I hope I never recover from this." -William Shatner We watched William Shatner blast into space [Wednesday] morning with a few others. (Screengrab image) They were just up there a few minutes. Upon his return to earth, he was quite philosophical, his words profound. I was in tears with him. Just his inability to describe the awe he felt at seeing the contrast between earth and space—the stunningly beautiful blue line of our atmosphere that he described as something like a thin skin compared to the expanse beyond earth. How below that blue line is life and above is nothing but death, how it was so dark out there in the universe but so light below on earth, and about the fragility he felt for our planet. "The little things, weightlessness, but to see the blue color whip by. And now you're staring at the blackness. That's the thing, the covering of blue...this comforter of blue we have around us. Then the sudden... you shoot through it all, you whip off the sheet and you're looking at the black ugliness. There is Mother Earth, comfort, and there is, is that death? I don't know, is that the way death is? Whip and it's gone! (Screengrab image) "...This experience is something unbelievable ... My stomach went up, this is so weird. But not as weird, as the covering of blue ... It has to do with the enormity and the quickness and the suddenness of life and death, and oh, my God ... I am overwhelmed. It's the most profound experience I can imagine. I'm so filled with emotion, it's extraordinary ... I hope I never recover from this." He was just beginning his reflections when Jeff Bezos and the rest interrupted, shaking champagne bottles and spraying it all around in celebration. He didn't join them and even turned away. He wasn't in a celebratory mood, but I also thought there must be more to the story. I searched some about his history. I learned that his wife of 2 years died of alcoholism back in the late '90s. It was traumatic for him as he was the one who pulled her from the swimming pool and, for a short time, was blamed for her death by some. (Screengrab image) Another notable thing about William Shatner is something you'll only hear here. Hannah Ford sang Christian music at a secular club in Los Angeles years ago. It was a great opportunity for her to "boldly go where no man had gone before," (LOL!) and shine her light for Jesus. It just so happened that William Shatner was in the audience and said, "That girl's got talent." I hope this dear Jewish man, through Hannah's witness and other opportunities, has come to Christ, his Messiah. If not yet, I'm sure he got closer today. He's 90. My dad accepted the Lord when he was nearly 93. Please join me today in praying for William Shatner to become ready for the ultimate voyage that would transport him beyond this universe to the eternal Home that God has prepared for His people.
