California Pastors Mount Fierce Opposition to Governor Newsome's Abortion Declaration

Chris Woodward : Jun 24, 2019

After Governor Gavin Newsome invited women to come to California to have abortions, outraged pastors gathered together.

That invitation generated shock and outrage among California pastors attending a Starnes Country Town Hall meeting broadcast on Fox Nation. Watch the entire broadcast by clicking here.

The Starnes Country Town Hall was filmed at Lancaster Baptist Church during their annual Spiritual Leadership Conference.

Todd Starnes, the host of Starnes Country, moderated a panel that featured Dr. Paul Chappell, pastor of Lancaster Baptist Church; Dr. Alan Fong, pastor of Heritage Baptist Church in San Leandro; Dave Delaney, pastor of First Baptist Church Long Beach; Paul Choi, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Eastvale; Brian Leversee, pastor of Horizon Baptist Church in Oxnard and Dr. David Gibbs, founder of the Christian Law Association.

"It's tragic and it's embarrassing," said Chappell, referring to the governor's radical pro-abortion position. "The Word of God is very clear in Jeremiah 1:5 that God recognizes birth in the mother's womb and He recognizes life in the mother's womb."

Jeremiah 1:5 states: "Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations."

"A pre-born child matters to God and should matter to every mother," Chappell said.

Instead of visiting a Planned Parenthood abortion mill, the pastor offered an alternative suggestion.

"What I would say to the governor's invite is that every woman that heard the invitation, if they do come to California, they ought to stop by a Bible-believing church and let us share with them the truth of God and the love of God about this matter of life," Chappell said.

Delaney, who is an especially popular preacher among young Christians, applauded millennials for being pro-life.

"They desire to hear the truth and the truth is life begins at conception, according to God's Word," Delaney said. "We hear a lot of bad things about millennials, but they're doing right by being pro-life."

Starnes said these are not the only Californians that are taking a stand for life and other values. According to Starnes, he hears a lot from Californians on his programs.

"A lot of people believe that if they're going to make California great again, it's going to be in Sacramento," Starnes added. "But I contend that if we want to make California great again, if we want to make America great again, that will happen not at the statehouse, but at the church house."
