"Dr. Dobson's season at Focus on the Family has been remarkable. He has done a superlative job in modeling the graceful transition of leadership from one generation to the next."

Dr. James Dobson, founder and host of the radio show Focus on the Family, will be leaving the well-known show in February, announced Dobson recently.

Current ministry president, Jim Daly, released a statement saying, "The Bible tells us that to everything there is a season—and Dr. Dobson's season at Focus on the Family has been remarkable. He has done a superlative job in modeling the graceful transition of leadership from one generation to the next."

Dr. DobsonDobson has been stepping back his role at the ministry since 2003, when he resigned as president and then this past February, when he stepped down from his role as chairman.

Having founded the ministry in 1977, Dobson—now 73—will continue to record his radio show through the end of February 2010.

Daly adds of the psychologist and Evangelical leader, "Dr. Dobson is a wordsmith, but one word I don't suspect we'll hear him using is 'retirement.' We wish him great success in whatever he decides to tackle next."
