Two US Journalists, Jailed in North Korea, Pardoned and Expected to Return Home

Both Laura Ling and Euna Lee are expected to return to the US with former President Bill Clinton, who made a surprise trip to North Korea in an effort to negotiate their release.
News came Tuesday afternoon (PT) that the two American journalists, Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who had been arrested by North Korea near its border with China in March, had been pardoned and were to return home.
Former President Bill Clinton had gone to N. Korea on Tuesday, in hopes of securing their release.
The decision to send Clinton was reportedly kept secret until the last minute. However, analysts noted that North Korea?s leader, Kim Jong Il may have been eager to smooth relations with the US, as he ?prepares to name a successor.?
