"I want to let visitors visualize what the Ark looked like, to bring the account closer to those who believe, but also to those who don't."

If you're in the Netherlands, and looking for something interesting to do, don't miss visiting Johan's Ark.

Johan and his ArkThe remarkable vessel is the special project of Dutch building contractor, Johan Huibers, and is patterned after the specs of the original Noah's Ark, found in the Bible.

At 70 cubits long, 9.5 cubits wide and almost 13 cubits high, the new ark is half the original length of Noah's and a third its width.

Huibers began his labor of love in 2005, prompted by a dream he'd had fourteen years before. He invested 1,000,000 Euros in his venture, the ark's construction assisted by only his son, Roy, who would help after school.

The ark is built on a barge, so it can move from port to port, making it more easily accessed by visitors. Onboard, it features realistic, polyester animals, displays, and even a film room and gift shop.

Johan Huibers explains one of his reasons for building the amazing replica, "I want to let visitors visualize what the Ark looked like, to bring the account closer to those who believe, but also to those who don't."

The ark will be stationed at various points throughout the Netherlands. To view its itinerary and for more information, follow the link provided.
