Around 3:20 PM EST today (Fri.), the tube supplying incapacitated Terri Schiavo with needed nutrients and hydration was removed, by order of Florida’s Judge Greer. A statement on the website of the “Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation” read, “Terri's nutrition and hydration have now been withheld from her. It is unclear if the port that accommodates her feeding tube has been surgically removed as her family was ordered to leave her room."

The removal of Terri’s feeding tube may not be the final picture in this battle however, as Bob and Mary Schindler have already begun legal motions to have the tube reinserted. Earlier today a subpoena was issued by the U.S. Senate for Terri herself as well as her husband, Michael and caretakers to appear before Congress.

Yesterday President Bush gave a statement concerning the ongoing battle for Terri’s life, “The case of Terri Schiavo raises complex issues. Yet in instances like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern. It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed, and protected and that culture of life must extend to individuals with disabilities.”

The Christian Coalition is urging U.S. Senate and House leadership to pass “Terri’s Law” on Monday. Senators Reid, Wyden, Boxer and Levin are still opposed to voting on the measure. The coalition recommends the following action for those who desire to make their voice heard: “Call your Member of the House and both Senators to urge them to ask their congressional leaders to schedule a vote on the "Terri Schiavo Law" on Monday (202-225-3121)”.
