Prayer Alert: At Least 8 Dead in High School Shooting in Santa Fe, Texas

Police and local government officials are cautioning residents to be on the lookout for suspicious devices that could contain explosives.

An unknown number of people are in the hospital and are undergoing surgery.

Police say the shooter, who is believed to be a student from the high school, was captured...

[Earlier] Friday morning around 7:30 in the morning, police responded to reports of a shooting at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas.

Santa Fe police told CBN News that officers were on the scene at Santa Fe High School but would not confirm any other details.

No one at the school immediately responded to a request for comment.

School district officials confirmed on their Facebook page that the school is on lockdown, following reports of an "active shooter."

Santa Fe is located between Galveston and Houston.

The following message was posted on the Santa Fe Independent School District's website:

"This morning an incident occurred at the high school involving an active shooter. The district has initiated a lockdown. We will send out additional information as soon as it is available."

It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office confirmed they are also sending deputies to the scene.

Life Flight was also called to the school.
