Thousands at Ground Zero for 9/11 Anniversary: A Day of Remembrance and Prayer

On Sept. 11, 2001, Islamic terrorists hijacked airplanes and flew them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

They crashed a third plane in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania when passengers tried to retake control.

Nearly 3,000 people died in the terrorist attacks that day.

Relatives, survivors, and rescuers will attend ceremonies at the three sites.
