Possible Cure for Deafness Found

A team of American scientists may have found a possible cure for a common cause of deafness. The technique uses the transplant of a specific gene that promotes the growth of ‘hair’ cells in the inner ear which convert vibrations to electrical signals in the brain.

People are normally born with 50,000 of these cells but age and other factors can bring about their deterioration, causing hearing loss.
