Federal Judge Blocks Obama's Transgender Bathroom/Locker Room Mandate, Just as Some Classes Begin

With school set to start Monday morning in a number of U.S. states, a Texas federal judge's order has changed a key policy many school districts were grudgingly preparing to enforce.
 
U.S. District Judge Reed O'Connor determined federal officials didn't follow proper procedures in creating the Obama administration's transgender mandate for public schools. In releasing an order to block the mandate throughout the U.S., he added the administration's guidelines contradicted existing statutes and regulatory texts.
 
U.S. public schools were instructed in May that transgender students must be allowed to use bathrooms and locker rooms consistent with their chosen gender identity just days after the Justice Department sued North Carolina over a state law that requires people to use public bathrooms that correspond with the sex on their birth certificate...
