"Like so many brave Americans who came before him, Charlie sacrificed his life in honorable service to our nation for a cause greater than self-interest, which we can never truly repay."

(Iraq)—Charlie Keating IV was part of a Navy SEAL team sent to Iraq to help the Peshmerga fight ISIS, and on Tuesday, he became the 3rd American service member to die in combat there since the 'anti-ISIS campaign' began in 2014. (Photo via Fox News)

Keating reportedly could have done well pursuing sports, as he was a star distance runner in high school, and in track and cross country at Indiana University.

However, Keating wanted to join the fight against terror, and attended the Naval Academy in San Diego, later becoming a SEAL 1st Class.

According to the Fox News report: [Keating] was part of the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) sent in to rescue fewer than a dozen U.S. troops who were in the village "advising and assisting" the Kurdish Peshmerga...

The attack happened north of Mosul, Iraq.

Although the current administration says U.S. service members are only in Iraq and Syria as 'support,' the Defense Secretary admitted that Keating did indeed die in combat.

"Like so many brave Americans who came before him, Charlie sacrificed his life in honorable service to our nation for a cause greater than self-interest, which we can never truly repay," said Sen. John McCain.
