Pastors and advocates spoke at a rally near the legislative building, encouraging elected officials to protect HB2.

The bill would ensure that citizens use public restrooms according to their biological sex. The law overturns a Charlotte ordinance that allowed transgender people to choose to use restrooms according to which gender they identify with.

The law has sparked a boycott/divestment frenzy, with major companies like PayPal refusing to expand in North Carolina. Deutsche Bank also halted expansion plans. Major celebrities and leaders like Nick Jonas, Demi Lovato and Bruce Springsteen have all cancelled their scheduled appearances in the state.

However, despite the national controversy, thousands rallied to ensure people can only use restrooms according to their biological sex. (Screengrab via CBN News)

"We are using the tools available to us in democracy—petitions, lobbying, public protests, civil disobedience—to say this law is wrong at its core, and it must be immediately repealed," Rev. Jasmine Beach-Ferrara, executive director of Campaign for Southern Equality, said in a statement to the New York Times.

The state house Democrats have filed legislation to repeal the Republican-backed law.
