The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has become an instant blockbuster success.

Lucy and Mr. Tumnus Ticket sales to the #1 movie - estimated at $67.1 million - far outnumbered ticket sales to the film rated #2 over the weekend, Syriana, which garnished $12 million in comparison. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, slipped to third with $10.3 million, raising its domestic total so far to $244.1 million.

Distributors expect Narnia sales to remain strong throughout the pre-Christmas season, and when the tallies are complete many expect Narnia will have outsold the Harry Potter film. If nothing else, like The Passion of Christ, these numbers speak volumes to the entertainment industry and the media/political movers and shakers at large.

Though it remains left to be seen what impact the film will have on the spiritual landscape of this nation, I predict that even those who do not know enough about Scripture to catch the clear symbolism of Christ in the film, will be compelled to research the mind that created the story. It is impossible to separate the man, C. S. Lewis, from his Narnia creation, and Lewis' life will continue to inspire multitudes and direct them to Jesus.
