U.S. House OK's Bills Targeting Planned Parenthood and Abortion; Now What?...

According to the Fox News report, the first bill would block funding for Planned Parenthood for a year. The second would reportedly impose criminal penalties on doctors who don't try to save the lives of infants born alive during abortions.

House majority leader, Kevin McCarthy told FNC, "Anyone who watches those videos—they are horrific," McCarthy told Fox News. "Aborting live babies for profit—why would anybody want to spend tax dollars for that?"

The two bills are stand alone in an effort to avoid shutting down the government, as President Obama has promised to veto any bill that defunds Planned Parenthood.

If the defunding effort is tied to a budget bill it would likely be vetoed by Obama, causing the shutdown; something Republicans would much rather not have happen as the election nears.
