Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal Calls for Prayers, Hails Heroes after Gunman Kills 3 Including Himself in Movie Theater

The gunman was identified as 59-year-old John Russell Houser from Alabama.

Houser had been staying at a hotel in Lafayette, and apparently had planned on an escape after the shooting, as police recovered wigs, glasses and disguises in his room, according to a Fox News report.

Hailed as Heroes
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Thursday night, hailed two teachers as heroes who helped others stay safe when the shooting began.

Governor Bobby Jindal told reporters, "Her friend literally jumped over her, and in her account actually saved her life. If she hadn't done that... that bullet, she believed it would have hit her in the head."

Another teacher alerted police and began an evacuation when she pulled an alarm in the theater.

"Even though she was shot in the leg, she had the presence of mind to pull the fire alarm to help save other lives," Governor Jindal said. "A lot of folks in that situation would just be thinking about themselves."

Latest reports state that out of the 9 people injured, two were released from the hospital.
