"Congress is right to use its oversight capacity to get to the bottom of this and hold this organization accountable."

On Friday, two committees of the U.S. House of Representatives began official investigations into the selling of babies' body parts occurring at Planned Parenthood facilities nationwide—with one Alabama Congresswoman gaining national attention for her fervent defense of pre-born lives. The announcement by leaders in Congress comes after an undercover video released July 14, showing a senior Planned Parenthood official casually discussing how they "crush" pre-born babies to preserve their organs for trafficking purposes. A second video released today, with more slated for coming weeks according to the Center for Medical Progress.

"Congress is right to use its oversight capacity to get to the bottom of this and hold this organization accountable," said Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL) at a press conference announcing the Congressional hearings to come.

"This warrants a criminal investigation—a serious one," she stated.

Her voice rising with a mother's passion, she continued, "I don't care how much political weight Planned Parenthood throws around this town: no one is above the law."

The first woman elected to Congress from Alabama, Rep. Martha Roby has been positioned as a leader in the investigation after her passionate speech delivered on the House floor the same day as the video's release.

A mother of two children with her husband Riley, Rep. Roby has largely been known for her strong voice defending free-market principles in energy and health care issues. This past week, she made local and national headlines after her emotional call to conscience on behalf of pre-born babies.

Referencing a recent scandal involving FIFA—the governing body of professional soccer—Rep. Roby asked in the press conference: "If we're going to be perp-walking soccer officials, how about let's bear down on harvesting and trafficking of babies' body parts?" Within two days of the undercover video's release, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards admitted the practice does occur but disputed that the organization profits from organs. "Our donation program [...] follows all laws," she said in a video response.

Now the influential Energy & Commerce Committee—including pro-life leaders Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA)—will consider the constitutionality and ethics of such laws... and whether Planned Parenthood has, in fact, followed the law.
