Somehow Deputy Frazier managed to free one arm to push the button that opened the door to the cruiser, releasing K-9 Officer Lucas; the dog immediately coming to the aid of his partner.

(Mississippi)—When Hancock County Sheriff's Deputy, Todd Frazier went to investigate a suspicious car parked in a rest stop, he left his partner—K-9 Officer Lucas—in his vehicle. (Photo: Lucas/Todd Frazier/via Fox News)

However, when Deputy Frazier approached the parked Lincoln Town Car with a lone driver inside, two other people came from the woods next to the car, and ambushed Frazier, according to the Clarion-Ledger report.

The attackers beat the deputy and cut him with a box cutter.

"They told him they were going to slit his throat, and they were dragging him toward the woods," Chief Deputy Don Bass described.

Somehow Frazier managed to free one arm to push the button that opened the door to the cruiser, releasing K-9 Officer Lucas; the dog immediately coming to the aid of his partner.

Lucas stopped the attack, biting one—possibly two—of the suspects, who were able to flee in the Town Car.

There is currently a multi-agency manhunt underway for the suspects.

Deputy Frazier—whose life was likely saved by his partner—reportedly suffered a large cut to his forehead and "multiple bodily injuries." Lucas, a black Belgian Malinois—although "covered in blood"—was not injured.
