airlift(Egypt)—If you've never heard of Mama Maggie before, rest assured you will in the future. She's been compared to India's Mother Teresa, in that she ministers to the poorest of the poor through her ministry, Stephen's Children Charity. Indeed, she's been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. But like Heidi Baker of Mozambique, also affectionately referred to as "Mama," Maggie Gobran was raised in a wealthy environment with the jet-setting world at her fingertips. In an interview with K-Love News, it's noted that Gobran "led a privileged life. She was married to an affluent businessman, bought her clothes in Paris and traveled the world as a marketing executive before becoming a professor at the University of Cairo."

airliftIt was during this time, 25 years ago, that 40-year-old Gobran, along with other church members, began ministering to the needy in Cairo. Shortly thereafter, she heard God tell her, "Leave the best, the smartest, and go to the poorest of the poor." Obeying His voice, she began the ministry Stephens Children, and the rest is history. Today, 65-year-old "Mama Maggie" is a Coptic Christian still serving the poor and persecuted in and near Cairo. (Screenshot via Fox News)

A Fox News report notes that several of the devout Christians recently behead by ISIS came out of Mama Maggie's schools. She said when the men were growing up in her schools, she ate with them and prayed with them.

"Yes, they are my boys," she said, explaining that they received their strength for martyrdom from God because "they [had] experienced a real touch of love."
