"Thank God that I'm still alive. Now I've got to go figure out why." -Kaleb Whitby

(Baker City, OR)—Interstate 84, snaking and stretching through the vast expanse of eastern Oregon was icy, buffeted by high winds, and enveloped in dense fog on Saturday morning, Jan. 17, providing some of the most treacherous driving conditions known to even the most seasoned drivers. Before he knew it, one of those drivers—Kaleb Whitby, a young husband and father—found himself involved in a freak pileup involving more than 100 people. He saw it happening before he was sucked into the scene.

"It was just all fast and loud," he said, noting that he had time to say a quick prayer. "I got scared of the possibility it could have been the end. I just braced and hoped that everything would be alright.

Seconds later, he was hopelessly pinned between two semi-trucks, his Chevy Silverado encasing him like a tin can crushed in the hands of an angry giant. (Photo via OregonLive.com)

After viewing the pictures that have swept around the world, to say it's a miracle Whitby survived is an understatement. Not only did he survive, however, he walked away virtually unscathed, sporting just a couple of Band-Aids.

Said Whitby, "Thank God that I'm still alive. Now I've got to go figure out why."
