This week of Thanksgiving, will the media continue to feed the frenzy of violence, or switch to covering the stronger voices of peace?

(United States)—It didn't take long for protests in Ferguson to take a violent turn following the announcement of "no indictment" against Officer Darren Wilson for the death of Michael Brown. (Photo: a peaceful 'die-in' in front of the DC City Hall/via @byaaroncdavisTwitter/Huffington Post)

By nightfall, numerous businesses in Ferguson had been damaged and looting was rampant; many of them were on fire—and the media cameras were breathlessly taking it all in and spewing it out on news reports.

However, as a Huffington Post article notes, there WERE many protests across the nation that were NOT violent, and as a result, they will likely prove to be a much louder voice for change, in the end.

I—for one—appreciate the fact that these non-violent demonstrations took place; as the right to gather PEACEFULLY, and voice our opinions as the people of this country is part of its very fabric—not to mention the First Amendment to the US Constitution.

So, regardless of agreement or non-agreement with those who chose and are choosing to protest and demonstrate peacefully, I absolutely respect them for their commitment to taking the high road.

As a member of the media, perhaps it's more "acceptable" for me to note that if the cameras and reporters packed up and left the areas of violent protests, and focused only on those that are peaceful—the chaos would quickly die down. (Photo by: Chip Somodevilla/via Getty/Huffington Post)

I might even venture to remind the various networks and cable news moguls that the media carry a (potentially dangerous) power to influence those whom they reach. This week of Thanksgiving, will they continue to feed the frenzy of violence, or switch to covering the stronger voices of peace?
